On Wikipedia [16 May 2006|03:50am]

[ mood | surprised ]

There's an entry for PLC on wikipedia. No, really.

I suspect that this entry was written by Mr. Rice or something, because it sounds like an advertisement for the freaking school, and not an objective description. I'm wondering if we should inject some... personalised experiences into the article.

Teee Heee!

We have a newwww principal (well technically not us but our ex-school)
I'm so glad i don't need to wonder what she's like.

Yep, and since it's so close to Easter, i thought i'd say Happy Easter, and don't forget to donate to the Good Fiday Appeal - even if it's just for the glory of seeing your name on your Tee-Vee!

Yah, and don't forget that ich bin auslanderin und sprechen nicht gut Deutsche. Yee-hah!

[ mood | amused ]

Yo follow International Baccalaureaters. The IB Academic Presentation is tomorrow night at the BMW Edge in Fed Square at 6:45. A reminder to those who are going to be there or be square, and to also take photos to post in this community.

Meanwhile, you may want to watch this IB rap video, though it's more a rap by an IB student, rather than about IB.

Hello, IB kids! To celebrate that we're all going to uni, and that we're all awesome, I made us some icons. These can be used as LJ icons or MSN userpics; they are the same size. In fact, you could print them out and stick them on your forehead. It's just a suggestion.

Shut up, I thought they were clever. I don't know if many of you have iPods, but the real point is the PUN. The hilarious, hilarious pun.

HECS [21 Jan 2006|05:36pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

Finally, after much confusion, I found out how you can calculate your fees for the year.

Connie's Guide to Melbourne Uni HECS aka How Much??!!

1.Go to: http://www.unimelb.edu.au/HB/index.html
2.Find your course.
3.Read information about how to choose subjects.
4.Write down/choose your subjects. Remember to write down the 6 digit code next to your subject. (ie. 123-456).
5.Go to http://fee.acs.unimelb.edu.au/csp.aspx if your place is Commonwealth Supported.
6.Type in your 6 digit codes into the spaces and hit TAB. Keep filling the spaces until your have finished with all your subjects (with optional subjects, put down your first preference).
7.A large number will be calculated for you at the bottom. This is how much it will cost if you rely ONLY on HECS and do not pay up front AT ALL*.
8.IF you have NO subjects that are under the year-long column, then you can choose how you want to pay (ie. Upfront, every semester, make the government pay for you).
9.The dates under each semester is when the payment for the subject is due, if you choose not to make the government fork out all of it.

*Note: For those too lazy to read the booklet, you get a 20% discount if you pay up front for the whole semester. If you pay $500 or more up front (and make the government pay the rest), then you have a 25% discount on what you pay. For example, if I fork out $500, then I will get $125 (25% of $500) off the original price. That is $125 worth of CD's, DVD's, clothes, shoes, monkeys, whatever you want! And if you call now, we'll throw in a set of steak knives!!**

**Steak knives = joke. Am not responsible for embarrassing questions to the admissions office about steak knives and so on.

I have no idea if this was helpful at all, but it took me hours to figure out JUST how to do that. Maybe I'm just incredibly thick. chickensoup_3, you are free to post one about Monash.

Disney Day:

If you haven't received Rashmi's emails: Disney Day at Bek's house has been cancelled, and so the only one happening is on Friday at mine (its Anna).

I suppose we'll start from about 9 or 10 and go until about 5.

If you are coming, please email me and tell me of any special dietary needs, or if you have an allergy to cats - I will attempt to clean the house of cat hair.

Please bring your videos (no DVDs as I don't have a DVD player.

Literary Smackdown [26 Dec 2005|02:22am]

Despite my constant urgings breakfastserial has not posted on this community. I therefore copy the IB Class of 2005's Literary Smackdown, and link to the original.

Patrick White VS Sophocles: Round 1: FIGHT
White ambles towards Sophocles with a convoluted plot and a terminally boring setting. Sophocles aims low with a protagonist who is insufferably full of himself, as well as some greek gods. White tried to defend himself with some barely decipherable sexual references, but Sophocles' fine use of incest and eye-stabbing make it no contest. Sophocles advances to ROUND TWO.

Sophocles VS Henrik Ibsen: Round 2: FIGHT
Sophocles tries a clever move involving having sex with one's own mother, but Ibsen deflects, using some downright weird nicknames that probably reference a sexual depravity Oedipus can only dream of. Ibsen finishes off with some excellently hidden insights about society and macaroons, against which Sophocles cannot defend himself, which puts Ibsen in ROUND THREE.

Henrick Ibsen VS Edith Wharton: Round 3: FIGHT
Wharton, a fan favourite, gets off to a poor start thanks to her failure to grasp the concept of SUBTLE irony. Ibsen tries to take advantage of this by injecting some ethical relativity, and overall coolness. Wharton recovers well, attempting to suffocate Ibsen beneath her cultural and literary references, although it works far better to constantly refer to the evils of conformity. The two seem evenly matched, resulting in a tie, until the crowd votes that Edith advance to ROUND FOUR.

Edith Wharton VS Albert Camus: Round 4: FIGHT
The depth of Camus' narrative and existential philosophy pose a threat to Edith's already shaky position. She hits back fiercly, forcing Camus to internally angst about Form and Style and Taste, distracting him while she puts in some hasty time jumps in her last two chapters. Camus, however, clocks her over the head with his extremely moving depiction of death and sickness, coupled with realistic and diverse character reactions. Edith dies of the bubonic plague. Camus strolls mildly to ROUND FIVE.

Albert Camus VS Isabelle Allende: Round 5: FIGHT
Allende starts what promises to be a vicious catfight with an instantly engaging plot and some wicked cool magic realism. Although the homosexual subtext between Rieux and Tarrou keeps Camus in the ring, Allende fights dirrty, enlisting the aid of clairvoyants, communists, whores, rapists, alcoholics, torturers and nymphomaniacs. The fine prose of Albert Camus crumples against the massive appeal of reading about some jolly naughty things. Ew? We think not. Allende's in ROUND SIX.

Isabelle Allende VS Gabriel Garcia Marquez: Round 6: FIGHT
All the sexual deviance in the world can't help Allende win this one - Marquez lashes out with awesome imagery about guts spilling everywhere, as well as some morbidly fascinating quirks of fate. Isabelle recovers enough to throw some illegitimate children and guerilla fighters in Marquez' direction. He deflects with a cleverly crafted reporter style, irony, and don't forget Victoria Guzman. Things reach a standstill until he throws in some details about urinary tract infections. We can't put the book down. Marquez advances to THE FINAL.

The sheer volume of Shakespeare's works threaten to crush Marquez. Some cool references to social hypocrisy and communal culpability for honour killings spur Marquez into a decisive attack. As he's about to deliver the final blow, The Bard cleverly gives him an Oedipus complex, coupled with a total inability to take decisive action about anything. Stalled for at least the next five acts, and doomed to 8 soliloquays and 4 murders, Marquez is totally immobilised. The Bard makes some convoluted speeches, then poisons and stabs Marquez.

Hi guys, to "get this nerdy party started" I'm posting some Valedictory pics! YAY! I encourage you all to submit similar pictures, ideas, IB smackdowns, synopsis' for your future movie about Stalin/Chemistry Titration championships. Below is what is known as a LJ cut. As some girls have expressed interest in getting a LJ after exams (YAY!) this is an LJ cut below (click on it to see the whole entry).

Currently this post is public (ie. everyone can see it), but if people are icky about their pictures on the web, then I can change to friends only. Comment.

Meanwhile, Anna aka chickensoup_3 is organising an end of year IB get-together! Email her if you haven't got the email already.

Good luck to all the girls who still have exams to go! Not long now!

First Post [11 Nov 2005|09:58pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

I have a feeling that this community is going to be a dismal failure. I'm currently open to additions on the rules as well as the interests. Happy IBing.

Seriously guys, there aren't many rules, and they're more like guidelines anyway.

1. Membership is only limited to PLC/ex-PLC girls who study IB. Why else would you join?
2. Standard no flaming, no StIcKy CaPs, no teenspeak (ie. OMG u guyz r soooo cool!!!111one).
3. Posts should be IB/PLC related only, although I'm going to allow some leeway for this. I will probably allow PLC-related topics, as well as World Events discussions (because it's kind of relevant to ToK).
4. If your post is very long, somehow spoilerish, relevant to only a few people or picture heavy, use the lj-cut.
5. Especially if this is a violent "I want to kill (insert teacher)" please use the friends-only option. You never know what the teachers are doing on their little iMac's.
